QuiltRBuddy — Children’s Privacy (COPPA) Policy

Our policy on children under 13

The QuiltRBuddy desktop (Windows) and Android applications, together with the optional QuiltRBuddy Community service, are not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect, use, or disclose personal information from children under 13 in compliance with the Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA, 15 U.S.C. § 6501 et seq.) and its implementing regulations (16 CFR Part 312).

What “not directed at” means

  • The App’s content, voice, and marketing language are written for adult and teen quilters.
  • The age gate during Community sign-up requires the user to confirm they are 13 or older.
  • We do not use age-targeted advertising or third-party trackers that profile minors.
  • The Play Store listing’s target audience is set to 13+.

What happens if a child under 13 tries to sign up

  • The Community sign-up flow asks for the user’s birth date.
  • If the entered birth date indicates under 13, sign-up is blocked.
  • No account is created in Firebase Authentication. No personal information is stored beyond the rejected birth-date check.

What happens if we discover a child under 13 already has an account

If we become aware that we have inadvertently collected personal information from a child under 13:

  1. We will delete the Firebase Authentication record and any Community posts, comments, photos, and project metadata associated with it within 30 days.
  2. We will notify the parent or guardian if we have contact information.
  3. We will not retain or share that data with any third party.

If you believe your child under 13 has provided personal information to us, please contact us immediately:

We will respond within 10 business days and delete the child’s information.

Users aged 13 to 17

Users aged 13 and older may use the Community service. We recommend that:

  • Parents review COMMUNITY_GUIDELINES.md with their teen before signup.
  • Teens use a display name that doesn’t reveal their full real name.
  • Teens avoid sharing photos that show their face, home, school, or location — and avoid uploading project photos taken in identifiable rooms or with school/team logos visible.
  • Teens never share parent or household payment details (parents’ card numbers, Google Play account credentials, or subscription logins).
  • Teens speak with a parent before joining group challenges, swaps, or quilt-along events, or before sharing contact information off-platform.

Photos and user-uploaded content from minors

Community lets users publish quilt designs, block files, and project photos. Even when a teen account holder follows the guidance above, photographs can incidentally include people, addresses, and other identifying details. Sierra Digital Forge LLC:

  • Does not require photos to use the desktop or Android app — the design, block, and project features all work without uploading anything.
  • Removes Community posts that appear to depict a child under 13 as soon as we are made aware, even if the posting account is held by an adult.
  • Will honor a parent’s request to remove any image in which their minor child appears. Contact privacy@sierradigitalforge.com with a description sufficient to locate the post.

Educational use

If a school, library, or educational program wishes to introduce younger users to QuiltRBuddy as a craft tool, please use the offline desktop application only (do not enable Community). The offline desktop app does not transmit any data, does not collect identifiers, and does not require sign-up. For programs that want a managed configuration, contact support@sierradigitalforge.com to discuss an education-mode deployment that disables Community sign-in entirely.
